Drake, ‘Signs’

The Louis Vuitton men’s spring-summer ’18 runway show

On “Signs,” which had its debut as part of the soundtrack of the Louis Vuitton men’s spring-summer ’18 runway show (beginning at around 3:30 in the above video), Drake doubles down on his current familiar obsessions: the sound of Nigerian Afrobeats, rendered here in soft focus, with Drake adopting the style into his vocal inflections as well; women who ask him for things (“I can’t say no when you say please”); and a sense of existential fatigue about his life that’s loud enough to be a cause for concern: “Champagne with breakfast while I'm yawning/Can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning.” JON CARAMANICA.

Queens of the Stone Age, ‘The Way You Used to Do’

“The Way You Used to Do” from “ Villains,”

Glam-rock returns, compressed to a warped blueprint of itself, in “The Way You Used to Do” from “Villains,” the album due Aug. 25 from Queens of the Stone Age. The beat is neo -rockabilly, pounded on tom-toms; the guitar riffs use just a handful of notes; there are handclaps  on the backbeats; and the subject is lust. But of course, Queens of the Stone Age pack in extras: multiple guitars are actually grappling in stereo, the bass line alternately joins and eludes  them, and between his pleas for a reunion, Josh Homme philosophizes: “Is love mental disease or lucky fever dream?” JON PARELES.
